Challenge:
A cornerblock in rack chassis has complex geometry and there are several machined corner blocks in the device. Corner blocks manufactured by machining have a long delivery time that do not fit the schedule of the project.
Solution:
Enmac applied topology optimization to the load bearing corner block and designed the block to be manufactured by additive manufacturing / SLM (Selective Laser Melting). Necessary post-processing was considered in design to minimize manufacturing cost and delivery time.
Result:
By utilizing topology optimization a cost-effective corner block was manufactured quickly. Corner block weighs 55% less and delivery time is 70% shorter.
